A bone fan with heavily gilded monture in 18th century battoir style, giving the appearance of metal, the upper guard particularly wide and carved with figures, the ovals in the gorge alternately designed with female figures and vases of flowers, four straight sticks separating these, the ovals on the guards containing sprays of flowers, the lower gorge in shaped and painted bone, no gilding, the double paper leaf a mid-19th century lithograph in dark colours perhaps for mourning, relieved by three pastel scenes with pensive figures, the verso slightly brighter but equally sombre with a bedroom scene showing a sick child, guard length approx. 25.5cm
In good order save from some loss to the paper on the recto.
