A Royal Crown Derby bone china pedestal urn and cover painted by Charles Harris with colourful birds, bearing the date mark for 1907, 8.5 cm wide x 18 cm overall height, together with a bleu de roi urn and cover with swags of raised and tooled gilded flowers, a two-handled urn and cover of globular form painted with sprays of cut blooms. (3) These items formed part of the collection of the late Peter John Mitchell of the West Midlands. Peter found an interest/ fascination later in life in the collecting of any manner of items and was a regular and well-loved attendee at the local auction houses in and around the West Midlands and sometimes further afield. He had a good eye for detail and an appreciation of quality, coupled with a discernment for the finer things in life, namely fine writing equipment mostly by the prestigious manufacturer Mont Blanc and extending in a very large way to his passion for Royal Crown Derby especially his beloved “Old Imari” pattern 1128 and of course Waterford crystal. As can be seen from the breadth of items in his porcelain collection he enjoyed his chosen fields and was an active buyer, and I am sure he would have approved of the items we curated for his estate in his absence.
