RARE 'ON BOARD' "SHORT PAID/FINE" MARK + "W-CODE" "CANADIAN -PKT" C.D.S; Remarkable 19 Feb. 1874 env. to Toronto with 1d Red tied by Eccles duplex and so with red (Liverpool?) "INSUFFICIENTLY/STAMPED", but then exceptionally sorted on westbound S.S. 'Scandinavian' with a fine very rare"SHORT-PAID [2]/FINE[3=5]" on the front and matching fair "CANADIAN-PKT/W" cds (very rare with this code - only one other recorded) on the back. Plus Apr./Sept. 1874 pair of envs. to St. Johns/Montreal with single 3d Rose-reds tied by Bedford/Manchester duplexes, but both above ½oz and so with mainly v. fine large oval/rectangular framed "INSUFFICIENTLY/PREPAID" marks (of Liverpool/Kingstown respectively?) on the front.
