USED QV POSTAL STATIONERY INC. REGISTERED ENVELOPE WITH STAMPS LOST IN TRANSIT TO GERMANY; 1881/98 lot inc. 5/14 June 1881 usage of the scarce GB 2d Blue "CYPRUS" regd. env. from Larnaca (red cds + fine oval "REGISTERED/CYPRUS" ds on the front) to a soldier at Metz with transit backstamps and red "Vom Ausland/uber Metz (Postamt.) regd. label but endorsed "ofen franco in Metz inngaldin [?] frei 14.6.81" (originally prepaid so deliver free?) where the stamps had been - apparently the stamps had been tied by Larnaca Numerals (but also by a red "MODANE A PARIS" rail cds) and were washed off just prior to delivery (rail accident??); plus 1885/98 used 10pa (2)/½pi (2) Wrappers & uprated 18921 ½pi PC to GB all with Larnaca Squared Circle cancels.
