A GEORGE III LACQUERED WALL/ALARM CLOCK BY WILLIAM WARREN OF ROYSTON, CIRCA 1760. The pagoda hood with foliate Chinoiserie lacquered decoration to front and top having a perforated pediment and three brass turned finials, the arched glazed door further lacquered and flanked by decorated pillars, with arched and glazed side panels, 30-hour alarm movement with arched top centred by a disc with engraved makers name Wm. Warren, Royston, flanked by gilded Green Man spandrels above a dial with roman numeral chapter ring, single hand and alarm wheel to the centre all on a matted ground, with four gilded rococo spandrels, 61cm high 27cm wide 16cm deep Footnote: William Warren of Royston, Hertfordshire, was registered to the Clockmakers Company in 1753 Provenance - Maurice Goldstone Private Collection, Goldstone Antiques, Bakewell Derbyshire. Purchased in the mid 1980s.
