1915 Homage to Edith Cavell (1865-1915) & Marie Depage (1872-1915), bronze medal by A. Bonnetain, conjoined busts left, reverse 1915 REMEMBER!, additional engraved legend 'A MR A. DE LEEUW LE COMIT? LOCAL DE FOREST RECONNAISSANT,' 60mm (BHM 4115; Eimer 1943).VF. Struck in honour of the famous English nurse executed by the Germans in 1915 for helping stranded Allied soldiers and Marie Depage for whom she worked at the Ecole Belgian D'Infirmi?res Dipl?m?es in Brussels, founded by Antoine Depage. Many of the captured Allied soldiers who were treated by Cavell subsequently succeeded in escaping, with her assistance, to Holland. Marie Depage was drowned on the Lusitania, returning from a fund-raising trip to the USA.
