YELLOW-SILK 'DRAGON' COURT ROBE, FOR A TEMPLE STATUE
QING DYNASTY, 19TH CENTURY
embroidered with five-clawed dragons amidst cloud and flame scrolls above a border of lishui and crashing wave border, bears an inscription "The official Cheng Yongxu is dedicated this to his grandson with deep respect "
231cm wide, 121cm long

NOTE: these type of robes were made to adorn statues in temples. In style they copy those from the Imperial dress of the Qing court, this example would have furnished a statue with a position within the Qing bureaucracy.

Good overall appearance. Some areas of discolouration and wear to some threads. Small dark stain on the left shoulder of robe and a watermark crease to one sleeve
