Franz Richard Unterberger (Austrian, 1838-1902) - Market scene in Palestrina, in the Roman Campagna, with the church of Santa Rosalia in the background - Oil on canvas - 91 x 128.5cm - 124 x 166cm framed - Signed and inscribed 'Bruxelles' lower right - Unterberger trained at the Düsseldorf Academy alongside Oswald Achenbach (German, 1827-1905), to whom some of Unterberger's paintings of Italy have been previously attributed. In 1864 Unterberger moved to Brussels, which gives the painting in this lot a post-quem dating. In 1874 the artist was awarded the Knight's Cross of the Franz Joseph Order by Emperor Franz Joseph I.
