ROOSEVELT, Franklin Delano (1882-1945) President of the United States 1933-45. Signed photograph. Photograph of FDR seated at his desk and inscribed 'For Miss Margaret Harrison from Franklin D Roosevelt'. A brass plaque on the frame states: 'This wood was part of the White House roof erected about 1817 and removed in 1927'. In the bottom right corner there is a medallion with the words ' The seal of the President of the United States'. Image 205mm x 230mm, frame 295mm x 322mm. With a signed photograph of Eleanor Roosevelt (1884-1962), First Lady. Eleanor Roosevelt is standing at the foot of a flight of stairs and the photograph is inscribed 'To Miss Margaret Harrison with good wishes, Eleanor Roosevelt'. Image 200mm x 140mm. Frame 266mm x 205mm (ink slightly faded). With a brass plaque stating the wood of the frame came from the White House roof. Margaret Harrison (1899-1995) was a famous violinist. One of four sisters, all talented musicians, the Harrisons were all leading figures in the British classical music scene during the first half of the 20th century. The family were also pioneer female musicians. Margaret toured the United States with her sister Beatrice, who played the cello, on several occasions, and on one of those visits was presented with these signed photographs. Margaret was for 50 years a leading breeder of Irish wolfhounds and would give one of her dogs to the Irish Guards whenever they needed a new regimental mascot (2)
