Star Lot : A fabulous early 20th century oil on board painting, showing a portrait of a young woman, in traditional gypsy dress with headscarf, lace shirt and a beautiful jeweled necklace adorning her chest. The red palette of her dress is accentuated in the figure's rosy complexion, and enhanced by the dimly lit background. Wonderfully observed with great detail in the face, and lovely looseness in the rest of the composition. Likely dating to the 1920s / 1930s. Initialed A. D. bottom left and housed in a vintage gilt wooden frame. Artist unknown, yet clearly a highly skilled individual with a great eye.
