A worksplate, AMERICAN LOCOMOTIVE COMPANY, RICHMOND WORKS, 46373, Aug 1909, from a standard gauge 2-8-0 from the Chesapeake & Ohio Railroad, their number 659. These were the workhorses of middle weight coal movements in the Appalachian mountains in Virginia, handling tonnage that didn't merit Mallet haulage. The Richmond works, originally formed in 1887, was absorbed into the Alco family when this grouping took place in 1901, and locomotive production ceased here in 1927, all further building occurring at Schenectady. Cast brass, 14"x7¾", the front repainted, a little wasting at the bolt holes. (Postage Band: C)
