A pair of Coalport landscape painted plates, early 20th century centrally painted by Percy Simpson with views of 'Kilchurn Castle' and 'Ben Venue', signed, printed, impressed and painted marks alongside titles, ex Shrewsbury Museum paper labels and accession numbers, 26.5cm diameter Provenance: Purchased at these rooms in November 2017. Kilchurn Castle is a ruined 15th-century structure on the northeastern end of Loch Awe in Argyll and Bute, Scotland. It was the ancestral home of the Campbells of Glen Orchy, who later became the Earls of Breadalbane, also known as the Breadalbane family branch of the Clan Campbell. The earliest construction on the castle was the tower house and Laich Hall (looks onto Loch Awe). Ben Venue is a mountain in the Trossachs area of Scotland. The name Ben Venue is derived from the Scottish Gaelic words meaning "the miniature mountain".
