£280
A Chinese smoky quartz snuff bottle, 1780-1820, of flattened shield shape, the carver skilfully using a pale opaque grey layer in the stone for a cameo of fruiting vines and rockwork, the reverse carved in low relief with rockwork and a pine tree, 6.7cm high, coral stopper
Provenance - the former owner collected jades and snuff bottles in the 1960s and early 1970s while living and working in Hong Kong.
There are two shallow splinter chips to the edge of the rim, natural inclusions to the stone, otherwise in good condition.
