Edward VI silver Crown, fine issue (1551-1553), 'Y' mintmark, Southwark mint (S 2478, North 1933). Obverse: king riding right on horseback with the date (1551) below, 'Y' mintmark and ': EDWARD': VI: D' G: AGL': FRANC': Z: HIBER': REX:'. Reverse: long cross fourchee over a shield of royal arms with 'POSVI DEV'. ADIVTORE'. MEVM: Y:' around. Weight: 29.98g. Diameter: 41mm. Grade: aF - almost Fine and pleasing, the obverse slightly off-struck, some lower edge damage. The Y mint mark, which appears on both the obverse and reverse of this coin, indicates that this coin was struck in 1551 in Southwark, a short-lived mint that operated at Suffolk Place, south of the Thames, in the 1540s and 1550s.
