WW1 OBE (Military) and 1914 Star trio with copy date bar and MID oakleaf to Capt H.J.H. Cox (2 Lieut Devon R. on star) about extremely fine, swing mounted as worn in Spink case. Humphrey John Hamilton Cox's OBE was announced in the London Gazette dated 14th March 1919 and the MID was was announced in the London Gazette dated 22nd June 1915 both serving with 2nd Bn.
He was born 26/3/89, commissioned in Devon Regt 7/10/11, promoted Lieut 15/11/14, Capt 20/9/15, appointed Capt & Paymaster in RAPC 15/3/23, Maj 15/3/33, Lieut Col & Staff Paymaster 1st Class 24/7/45, placed on Retired List and granted Hon Col 4/4/46.
With original commission scroll in envelope of transmission, bestowal document for OBE with envelope of transmission and covering letter, Devonshire Regt cap badge, 5 Devonshire metal buttons in Hawkes & Co box of issue (1 button is missing). With copied will, war diary pages from 1914 to 30 June 1916, MIC, MID card and various hand written details from family.
He landed in France 6/11/14, wounded in attack on German trenches 18/12/14 in which the battalion suffered 121 casualties, suffered GSW left shoulder. The Bn was heavily engaged in the Battle of Neuve Chapelle in March 1915 where they suffered over 300 casualties and the award of MID likely for this battle.
He died in Salcombe on 17th October 1979. (See photo) (½B)
