A round wooden box, 4" diameter, made from the wood salvaged by John Deane in 1836-39 from the wreck of the Mary Rose, which capsized and sank at Spithead on June 19th 1545. Watchglass missing from the lid, which is in three pieces. Ex RUSI Museum (no 333), given by Sir John Barrow, Bart, who as Second Secretary to the Admiralty for 40 years did much to stimulate Arctic exploration. A box similar to this was found in the wreck when it was raised in 1982. £50-60
