90th (Perthshire Volunteers) 1853 Officer South Africa Medal. Awarded to CAPT W.V.JOHNSON 90TH REGT. Retaining original ribbon and buckle pin ... together with rectangular gilt waist belt plate mounted with crowned strap THE PERTHSHIRE LIGHT INFANTRY with attenant Union sprays resting on bundle of rods and axe. Centrally a strung bugle over XC (part of C absent). Reverse impressed with Feur de Lys; fittings no longer present. (2 items) Captain William Victor Johnson was appointed an Ensign in the 90th Foot June 1840 and promoted Lieutenant 1845 and Captain 1849. In 1847 he was reported as in command of wounded troops returning from the Cape. He resigned his commission in 1854. He died in 1891
