JAMES OAKES BURY 1770 DATED ENGLISH CYLINDER WINE BOTTLE. (Burton p766-767). 10.3ins tall. Something of an iconic & uber classic English sealed cylinder wine. Black/ dark green glass. Crude/ uneven cylinder, slightly tapering neck, applied string rim (perfect) re annealed lip (pin head, in use, edge flake). Extremely well struck & crisp upper body seal - the gent was a well known Bury St Edmunds a wealthy merchant and banker. Base kick up, pontil. Ex Maurice Collins Collection.
