WW2 SOE recipient's 1939-1945, Pacific, France and Germany Stars and BWM un-named as issued attributed to 2389821 Sgt Robert James Moyes R. Sigs good extremely fine. Following details supplied by the family, enlisted 16/4/42, Royal Signals No 1 Light Section SOE, trained with US Forces Spring 1944, sailed to France 10/6/44, at Bayeux 26/7/44, present at fall of Caen, present on Allied side of ground at Arnhem in contact with Dutch Resistance, returned to UK 22/9/44, sailed to Australia on SS Athlone Castle 26/12/44, joined Z Special Unit of Allied Intelligence Bureau, posted Forward base Labuan, Borneo, returned to UK on HT Mooltan Jan 1946, discharged 11/6/46.
Sold with array or original documentation and items including Fairbairn Sykes Second Pattern fighting knife with unusual scabbard with leather sheath fitted to metal belt attachment resembling a kitchen flipper with metal spine and tip (probably adapted for jungle operations where the leather would otherwise rot) (See photo), large wooden Dayak war club (90cm long), Soldiers Service Book, Release Book, Cert of Transfer to Reserve, medal transmission slip, Record of Service, HT Mooltan leave slip, range of military photos (27) including Labuan SRD Signals, native Dayaks, jungle etc, family photos (5), cloth & metal badges, shoulder titles etc (9), Australian Forces Equipment Card, Australian Forces Baptism Card dated 26/1/45, Movement order to Labuan, good range of letters, receipts, vouchers, tags, marriage certificate, telegrams, US Forces New Testament, Japanese occupation banknotes (28), etc. Within 1 letter there is reference to several Chinese Canadians who were awarded the Military Medal for guerrilla exploits in Borneo in 1945, with newspaper details of same.
