'Being a Complete and Practical Treatise on Direct-Acting Underground Steam Pumping Machinery,' first edition, 277 pages, plus 48 pages of adverts at the back being a catalogue of books pub by Crosby Lockwood & Co etc, lacks front endpaper, in original binding with gilt lettering to spine, ex libris label for Lanner House, a good copy of a scarce work, Crosby Lockwood and Co, London, 1881. Michell was an expert on contemporary mining technology. He co-authored an essay ‘’The Cornish System of Mine Drainage’’ prior to writing this comprehensive survey.
