A 1690 captaincy commission signed by William III and countersigned by his Principal Secretary, Robert Southwell: the appointment of Mark Ranford to be a captain of a foot company in the Militia of Dublin, signed at Chapel Izard (Chapelizod), Dublin, July 30th 1690. Together with a 19th century transcript of part of the text.
Ranford is believed to be an alternative spelling of Raynford/Rainsford – possibly Sir Mark Rainsford (1652-1709), who was Lord Mayor of Dublin 1700-1701 and owner of the famous St James’s Gate Brewery, which the Rainsfords sold to Arthur Guinness in 1759.
