A PAIR OF MAIOLICA PEDESTAL EWERS, c.1900, of ovoid form with acanthus lip, bi-furcated snake's head loop handle with male grotesque mask terminal issuing with a further pair of snake like winged beasts, their heads forming the front hand rest, the shoulders incised with shells and crustacea over a foliate band on a single knopped wrythen incised swept foot, impressed 26, indistinct green tinted circle mark, 16" high (Est. plus 24% premium inc. VAT)
Both have typical fairly minor flakes to extremities, one snake head near thumb piece is repaired with loss, one has a small section of male nose knocked off and badly re-coloured in bright yellow. Both have been neatly drilled below handle to be turned into lamp bases. No apparent restoration or cracks
