An Attic Red Column Krater, Greece circa 4th Century BC, decoration depicting Dionysus with a maenad, the other side depicting two figures, grape and vine decoration, height 44cm.
Condition - extensively broken and repaired (see images), loss and fading to decoration. Provenance - from the estate of the late Keith Scott (1927-2015), architect and founding partner of the British Design Partnership (BDP), sold on behalf of the estate, although specific details of where and when the vase was acquired the current family members simply stated 'as long as they can remember', which would imply at least pre 1950.
