1665 (May 6) Entire from Earl Clare in London, addressed "for Mr Henry Shipton at Hamstall Ridware near Yoxall in Staffordshire, leave this at the post house in Litchfield to be sent Litchfield, post pd" and "pd 3", "MA/6" Bishop Mark. A scarce letter from the period of the great plague (when Parliament was transferred to Oxford), postage paid as Parliament was not then sitting, the MPs franking privilege therefore suspended. Fine and scarce. Photo on Page 34.
