CORRESPONDENCE FROM THE CONSUL(?) AT TANGIER OR TETUAN: 1788-91 letters to the Governor of Gibraltar (ex Governors Papers) from the Consul in Tangier giving news of events. Much commentary on the state of relations with the Spanish, etc., inc. "Atall was cut in to pieces and burnt - his head fixed here on the market - the Spanish Vice Consul at Tetuan had a hole thro the heals(sic) & hung up naked. I saw him alive 20 hours after, left on purpose as an exhibition for the Spanish Consul ... At our first public audience I was particularly distinguished - The Empr(or) declared his friendship for our Nation ...". Presumably the British Consul breathed a sigh of relief! No postal marks but interesting content. (6 items) Cross Reference: MOROCCO
