French school, possibly sixteenth century, Lucretia with a dagger, unsigned, oil on panel, 61cm x 49.5 cm in a later frame 76 cm x 65.5 cm. By family descent in Bordeaux The panel shows joins in the boards and an old repair across the panel at the rear, the panel also shows old woodworm damage to the reverse. The surface of the paint is crazed and has a crocodile skin effect from age. The frame being pine has some woodworm activity evidenced by a peppering of flight holes.
