John Houston (British, 1930-2008)- Summer Sky, Seilebost. Oil on canvas, 1974-1975, signed ‘Houston’ lower right and dated on stretcher verso, 61cm x 71cm, modern frame. Provenance - with the Mercury Gallery, London (label to verso). Painter and teacher, born in Buckhaven, Fife, married to the artist Elizabeth Blackadder, Houston studied at Edinburgh College of Art, 1948–54. In 1957 he helped start the 57 Gallery in Edinburgh, having his first solo show there in 1958. Other one man shows were held at the Scottish Gallery, Edinburgh, and Mercury Gallery for many years.
