Weighing Machine Cards - a piece of highly detailed, mixed media, original artwork for a Weighing Machine card series by Mardon, Son and Hall Ltd, 'Association Footballers', believed to be unproduced, depicting a portrait of Tommy Lawton, who played for Notts County and later on, Arsenal. Mounted on card, measuring approximately 15 x 21 cm. Artist unknown.
Thomas Lawton (6 October 1919 - 6 November 1996) was an English football player and manager, who played for Notts County, after a British record transfer fee of £20,000, and later joined Arsenal as a player where he saw the remainder of his playing career. He scored 260 goals in 433 league and cup competitions in 14 full seasons in the Football League. He scored 22 goals in his England appearances over a 10 year international career from 1938 to 1948. He was inducted into the English Football Hall of Fame in 2003.
