R.M.Steamer" with v. fine scarce "LITTLE-RIVER/JAMAICA" serif cds on flap having contents inc. thanks for "Your favour of the 14th January, apprising me of the loss, in the unhappy Amazon of your [Decr. letters]...". The entire Perkins Bacon shipment of the very first stamps of Barbados were lost in this wreck of the 'Amazon' (along with 115 of her 162 passengers/crew and the addressees' letters) on 4 Jan. 1852.
