Clarice Cliff & Eva Crofts - Blue & Silver Bands - An Art in Industry Bon Jour early morning bachelor set circa 1934, decorated with wriggle silver lustre and blue lines, artists signature and Bizarre mark. (6)
NB - This was designed by Eva Crofts for the 1934 Harrods and Art in Industry 'Modern Art for the Table' exhibitions. In 1934 Foley China and Clarice Cliff were asked to produce a range of table wares for the exhibitions and notable artists of the day such as Paul Nash, Laura Knight, Duncan Grant, Graham Sutherland, Gordon Forsyth, Ben Nicholson and Barbara Hepworth were invited to submit designs. Due to poor marketing, the public were largely unaware of the designs and after an initial twelve sets were commissioned of each, further production was halted.
There is a small chip to the lug inside the cover which holds the lid in place, obviously not visible when the cover is on. Everything else is free from chips, cracks or restoration. There is some minor wear to the decoration on the saucer well and a little on the side plate. Generally in very good order
