A Tuscan, probably Livorno terracotta Royal Navy provisioning jar, of oviform with robust rim and lug handles, beneath each handle is an oval medallion, 18th century, 88cm high. * These jars were used for the export and storage of olive oil, not for culinary purposes, but for lubrication. See Tuscan export olive oil jars in British, British colonial, and Royal Navy contexts of the 17th and 18th centuries, Ron Coleman
