A tenderplate, SAECHSISCHE MASCHINENFABRIK, VORM RICH HARTMANN, 4028, 1917, from a large bogie tender attached to 1050mm gauge 2-8-2 no.259 of the Hejaz Railway in modern day Syria, Jordan & Saudi, but then part of the Ottoman Empire. This was the last class supplied to the erstwhile HR and was amongst those delivered so late in the WW1 Palestine campaigns that it ended up being finally commissioned by New Zealand forces. The engine was last noted laid aside in Cadem Works in the 1980s. Cast steel, 10"x4¾", the front repainted, a repair to the lower right. (Postage Band: B)
