An Adam style Old Sheffield Plate water ewer, 19th century, of classical form engraved with a coat of arms, motto 'Vera Bona Dignoscere', and family crest for Abel-Smith from Woodhall Park, 30.5cm high (at fault)
Please view additional images detailing the most significant faults with this piece.
The cover appears to have been broken off and re-soldered, and now sits at an angle (see pictures). The lid does not sit flush with the opening, and is quite loose. There is heavy splitting where the beaded border meets the rim.
There is possible signs of resoldering to the handle, but it is secure. There is moderate to heavy denting to the body and the base, the largest being on the circular base. Possible signs of solder repair to the beaded borders on the body and the base. No splitting to the body or foot. There is moderate wear to the engraving, but all lettering is still legible.
