GERMAN STATES - RARE UNDERPAID JERSEY COVER WITH BOXED "F 45" CANCELLING "F. 46": 21 May 1866 env. from "JERSEY" (cds on flap) to "Wolfenbuttel, Brunswick" endorsed "Via France" franked by 6d Lilac (pl.5; wing-margin) tied by mainly fine "409" numeral with flag-framed "F. 46" overstruck by partly fine chamfered-frame "F 45" with second similar strike of latter alongside. Underpaid & so with London "INSUFFICIENTLY/PREPAID" on the front beside red circular "PD" overstruck by London inspector's "50" numeral; with blue m/s "6½" arrival charge (backstamps inc. 5 blue Wolfenbuttel cds/delivery marks). Spectacular Channel Islands cover with rare combination of marks.
