A CLASSICAL PERSIAN TABRIZ CARPET, hand woven in Eastern Azerbaijan, Iran c.1940. Material: woollen pile hand woven over a period of four to six months on a hand loom by master weavers of the Azeri tribes, with a knot density of 300,000 knots per square metre, dyed using all natural dyes taken from bay leaves, cochineal, madder, saffron and walnut skins. Design: this carpet features a central medallion combined with deep red ground and an intricate floral border, all distinctive features of the 16th Century Shah Abbas era designs. Size: 274cm x 178cm
