A Scottish military officer's dirk, 19th century. Ornately decorated with cast metal locket and chape mounts moulded in relief depicting thistles, acanthus and the Apostle Saint Andrew holding the cross. The dirk's pommel, campaign knife and fork terminals are inset with faceted Cairnegorm (citrine) stones with each finely carved wooden grip inset with equidistant metal studs. The main single edged blade sheathed within the leather scabbard is forged with a sharp edge, faceted edge and finely engraved throughout to both sides with intertwined thistles issuing from the guard, enclosing a maker's mark of R Drake of 25 Piccadilly London. 18.3 in (46.5 cm) length.
