A CHARLES II OAK BACKSTOOL, SOUTH YORKSHIRE, PROBABLY SHEFFIELD, CIRCA 1660. Having an arched cresting of shaped outline, with vigorous stylized floral carving, above a row of four turned spindles, and a guilloche-carved horizontal lower stay-rail, the uprights with scroll-shaped ends also guilloche-carved, the boarded seat with punch-decorated edges, raised on baluster-turned front legs, joined by plain stretchers, 48.5cm wide x 48cm deep x 95cm high
The outline of the arched cresting and the fully-carved uprights, with outward-facing double scroll finials, are unusual features.
