1914/15 STAR AND VICTORY MEDAL TO CAPTAIN FENCHELLE MC ROYAL FUS 1914/15 Star, correctly impressed 3304 L-Cpl. E A. Fenchelle R Fus; Victory Medal, correctly impressed Capt E A Fenchelle; condition VF (late issues) Emile Alfred Fenchelle was born in Switzerland in 1890. In civilian life, Fenchelle was a Bank Clerk.
When the war broke out, he joined the 24th Bn of the Royal Fusiliers ( The Sportsmans). He landed in France on the 11th of November 1915, being commissioned in September 1916. On the 21st of December 1916, he was awarded the Military Cross with the following citation.
'Temp. 2nd Lt. Emile Alfred Fenchelle, R. Suss. R. For conspicuous gallantry in action. He assumed command of and led his Company with great courage and determination, consolidating the position and establishing touch with the battalion on his right'
During WW2, he served as a Major in the RAOC; he sadly died in Belgium on the 16th of July 1945 and is buried in Brussels Town Cemetery.
