Star lot: A evocative original oil on board painting by the well known Irish artist Noel Sheridan. This atmospheric piece consists of thick impasto horizontal strokes in vivid colours contrasting with the dark blue background. Signed bottom right. Sheridan sells well at auction, with a sale at Whyte's reaching €5,800.

Sheridan was born in Dublin in 1936. He exhibited at the Dawson Gallery and at the Irish Exhibition of Living Art and in 1960, represented Ireland at the Paris Biennale. He was a member of several prestigious committees including The Independent Artists, Rosc and Aosdána. A retrospective exhibition of his work was held at the Royal Hibernian Academy in 2001, coinciding with the publication of his memoire, Noel Sheridan: On Reflection.
