DCM L/G 11/3/1920 "on 7th August 1918 the battery was in action in the Nieppe Forest and was subjected to a heavy mustard gas bombardment which caused many casualties. Although gassed he was the only one who remained at his post and refused to be sent away. He inspired all ranks by his determination and courage". (3)
