£1,500 - £2,000
An early 18th century Indo Portuguese ebony, satinwood and red tortoiseshell travelling case, the hinged lid opening to reveal four compartments, the fall front dropping down to reveal an arrangement of seven drawers centred by a nonsuch type mirrored and ivory inset central compartment which pulls out to reveal three 'secret' drawers, on ebonised bun feet, 42cm wide, 30cm deep, 29cm high. Ivory submission reference: YHDD1FSF
Looks to be in honest condition, the lid with two replaced panels of tortoiseshell and further loose veneers including some losses to the ebonised banding and one section of satinwood banding, interior of the lid is in satinwood which has a crack running across, internal compartments plain with some sections of veneer missing from the left side, lock looks to be a later replacement, but does work on the old key which also works the lower lock, fall front has one section of satinwood missing, interior with some damages and losses to the ivory banding of the inside of the door and further small losses to the front of one of the drawers, minor losses to the inlaid 'floor' of the central compartment, both sides with lifting and some missing veneers. The back again with some missing veneers and a horizontal split. Side handles and escutcheons look to be original.
