Corporal John Nickerson, son of Shadrack Fitzherbert Nickerson and Clara Ada Nickerson of Grimsby, served in 'A' Company, 10th Battalion, Lincolnshire Regiment in WWI. He died on July 1, 1916, during the Battle of the Somme, aged 22 years. He is named on the Thiepval Memorial in France.
