The exhibition was closed for political reasons and further dificulties led Schutt to leave Stettin for Danzig in 1937. He planned to escape Germany in 1940 but was thwarted at the last minute and instead was drafted into the military being stationed in Guernsey between 1942 - 1944. The bombing of Stettin in 1943 destroyed his entire body of work, nearly 1000 pictures and sculptures. (4)
