Historical Exploration Interest, an 18th century Lynn glass beaker, circa 1790, engraved for Captain George Vancouver, Fair Winds and God Speed, and a central image of HMS Discovery, optic ribbed bucket form, 12cm high, rim 10cm diameter, base 7.2cm diameter Note: explorer and naval Captain, George Vancouver, set sail from King's Lynn in April 1791 aboard HMS Discovery to survey the Pacific Northwest coastline of North America, which resulted in the publication of his three volume book 'Voyage of Discovery to the North Pacific Ocean' in 1798. During his travels he circumnavigated the island now known as Vancouver Island, Canada. This locally made glass would have been sold as a souvenir of his embarkment.
