A Chinese Wucai 'month' cup Kangxi six-character mark and possibly of the period Finely potted with deep rounded sides rising from a short foot to a flared rim, painted to the exterior with a red-flowering peony plant, representing the fourth month, the reverse inscribed in underglaze blue with a poem followed by a seal mark reading shang (appreciation). 4.5cm high (hairline to rim) Provenance:Private West Midlands vendor, the property of a gentleman. Footnote:A similar example was sold at Bonhams New Bond Street rooms as part of the Parry Collection of Chinese art, 2 November 2021, lot 23. A complete set of twelve month cups can be found in the collection of the Metropolitan Museum, New York, a bequest of Mary Stillman Harkness, 1950, accession number 50.145.267–.278. Condition:Fine hairline to the rim, otherwise good overall condition.
