£130
An old album of nearly 190 postcards – approximately 177 of Southampton and the other 12 of the Cat and Fiddle public house in the New Forest (see last image to see six of the 12), apparently a favourite haunt of the vendor. The Southampton cards are nearly all city centre and docks related, but a selected few include real photographic studies of the King George V Graving Dock and the dry dock, as well as printed cards of the Titanic Memorial, Ocean Quay and Netley Hospital. Various publishers and a few examples of local photographers at work, including Cosser, Hoffman and FGO Stuart (see photos). The cards date from Edwardian (1902-10) to the early 1970s, but most are pre-World War One. Mixed but generally good condition. There are a few blank pages in the album in between the end of the Southampton collection and the Cat and Fiddle pub cards.
