With lovely full-colour and monochrome reproductions of Bawcombe’s illustrations throughout. With a foreword by Prof. Tjaart van der Walt, then-rector of the University of Potchefstroom, and historical text by Arie Kuijers. Texts are in English and Afrikaans.
Deluxe edition inscribed by Philip Bawcombe to Harry Roscoe, who printed the book. Roscoe was one of the owners of Rufus and Joubert printers.
Philip William Bawcombe (1906-2000) was an industrial designer, inter alia for film studios, and official South African war artist during World War II, who also produced acclaimed collections of paintings illustrating the cities of Johannesburg, Potschefstroom and Kimberley, in South Africa, published as books in 1973 and 1976 respectively.
