Under development for a year, the CB750 had a transverse straight-four engine with a single overhead camshaft (SOHC) and a front disc brake, neither of which had previously been available on an affordable mainstream production motorcycle.
The CB750 was the first modern four-cylinder machine from a mainstream manufacturer, and the term superbike was coined to describe it. Adding to the bike's value were its electric starter, kill switch, dual mirrors, flashing indicators, easily maintained valves, and overall smoothness and low vibration both under way and at a standstill.
AWU was imported in 1993 by GT Moto Services of Leeds and has had 6 UK owners, the first being Paul Skelchley in 1998, this was followed by Neil Rhodes in 2016 and George Tristram in 2018, our vendor bought it from him.
There is a very detailed receipt on file for the restoration using some £3000 of parts plus labour of £927 in 1994, in 2004 the engine and gearbox were overhauled. The odometer read 12,442 miles at that point, today it stands at 20,978 miles. There are MOT certificates on file from 1993 at 146 miles (when the restoration started).
