1897 hand-drawn essay of ½a type 1 executed in pencil and black ink on wove paper (49x38mm) and signed and dated ‘MAtighe nov'96’ at foot, affixed to letter dated '7 MAY 1897' at top, written by the stamp's designer, Captain Michael Tighe. Which reads ‘'The first Las Bela stamps ever issued made by Thacker & Co Bombay from an original design drawn by myself in November 1896 when political agent in S. Baluchistan. MA Tighe Capt PA.S.B Karachi’' Archival tears to letter at lower right, not detracting. An incredible and unique item of the highest rarity and importance, the ideal frontispiece to any Las Bela exhibit. This essay and letter has remained in the family's possession for over 120 years!
