A PAIR OF SILVER MOUNTED 18TH CENTURY FLINTLOCK PISTOLS BY HEYLIN OF CORNHILL. With 5cm tapering circular barrels, the flintlock actions engraved 'Cornhill, London' and 'Heylin', with various proof marks below the barrel, the short walnut grips with vacant silver escutcheons and mask butt plates, the plates with partial hallmarks. 19cm overall. Heylin is Joseph Heylin (1730-1801) freeman of the London Gunmakers' Company from 1757 and Master of the Company from 1777. Despite considerable success he was bankrupt in 1779 and died in 1801. *CR: Barrels polished, trigger guards differ, part of action lacking on one, action loose on the stock on the other.
